ipoque launches high-end system of the PRX series for application- and user-aware traffic management
Leipzig, August 16, 2006 – Operators of very large networks having to select a traffic management solution face a difficult decision: while affordable systems often lack the required performance, functionality and reliability, the established high-end solutions with their complex feature sets are often difficult to manage and very expensive. The new PRX-2000, tailored to fit the requirements of Internet service providers and large enterprises, sets a new standard in performance, reliability and price-performance ratio.
The PRX-2000 is an extremely powerful, effective and reliable traffic management system for networks with high data rates and user numbers. It achieves full gigabit throughput and a maximum packet rate of 650,000 packets/s. In addition to Gigabit Ethernet copper ports, the PRX-2000 features SFP (mini GBIC) ports for optional 1000Base-SX/LX fiber ports.
The high reliability is achieved by a watchdog-based hardware bypass. This bypass electromechanically connects the two copper bridge ports in case of a system failure so that neither hardware and software malfunctions nor intentional reboots (e.g. after updating the system software) cause an interruption to network connectivity. For the fiber interfaces, an external bypass switch is available optionally. If an uninterrupted traffic management service is required, a secondary hot standby unit can be installed to immediately take over operation if the primary unit fails. This makes the PRX-2000 the ideal choice for networks with extreme availability requirements (e.g. ISPs).
The PRX-2000 operates as a transparent bridge thus being fully transparent to network users. It is available in two versions: as PRX-2000 with full gigabit throughput and as PRX-2000e with 2x 350 Mbit/s full duplex throughput. A PRX-2000e can be upgraded to a PRX-2000 by obtaining and activating a license key.
