ipoque introduces new bandwidth management solution to control undesired applications such as P2P, IM and Skype
Leipzig, June 7, 2006 – Mission-critical applications in corporate networks demand an unrestricted and highly reliable network connectivity. ipoque delivers the traffic management solutions to meet these requirements. The new models PRX-200 and PRX-200e are effective, powerful and highly reliable traffic management systems which are suitable for networks with data rates up to 200 Mbit/s. They enable network operators to control the bandwidth usage of undesired applications such as peer-to-peer-based file sharing (P2P), instant messaging (IM) and Voice over IP (VoIP) including Skype. Traffic generated by these applications can be blocked, throttled or logged.
The PRX-200/PRX-200e is a new mid-range model for enterprise networks. It features efficient application- and user-aware traffic management to control undesired applications such as P2P, VoIP, Skype and IM. Data rate and volume limits can be enforced per network link, subnet and individual IP addresses. The integrated scheduler allows to automatically change traffic parameters. Regular protocol signature updates about 4-6 times a year guarantee an effective application detection.
Seamless Integration and Simple Administration
The PRX-200 has Fast Ethernet interfaces and achieves a maximum full-duplex throughput of 200 Mbit/s. Its entry-level version PRX-200e offers a throughput of 100 Mbit/s and can be upgraded with a license key to a full PRX-200. They operate as transparent bridges allowing a seamless integration into existing network infrastructures with no configuration changes. Configuration and management is done via a simple and intuitive Web interface with an integrated help system.
Enterprise-Level Availability and Security
The PRX-200 features an integrated watchdog-based hardware bypass that maintains network connectivity in case of a system failure. Prior to a system reboot, for instance after installing a firmware update, the bypass is automatically activated. An uninterrupted network connectivity is guaranteed at all times making the PRX-200 suitable for enterprise networks with high availability requirements. As a transparent bridge, the PRX-200 is invisible to normal network users. Access to the management interface can be restricted to the local network.
The PRX-200’s modular architecture allows for flexible feature expansion by installing plugin modules. Modules are available for various application classes and advanced management functions. ipoque also offers customization and the development of customer-specific features.
